U of A students hope for Coach Petrino's quick recovery

The coach was injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Word about Razorback Coach Bobby Petrino’s motorcycle wreck quickly spread across the University of Arkansas campus Monday. Students say they hope the coach's injuries won't keep him away from spring practice.

The coach was injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday night.

"I thought it was kind of surprising," says Junior Payam Chitsazan.

Most students we spoke with had several questions about how the accident happened.

“He probably shouldn't be out riding a motorcycle out when he's training,” says Freshman Kevin King.

But students were most concerned about the coach's recovery.

"It kind of shocked me," says Sophomore Gene Rogers, "I want to know how he is.” I was going to look up articles online or to see if he's alright."

One question on everyone's mind was how long will the coach be out for spring practice, and will his injuries will keep him from coaching the team. Students we spoke with say that Petrino, who has led the Hogs to three bowl games in his four seasons on campus, is bound to make a quick recovery.

"Yeah, he'll be out, but I'm not that concerned because it's springtime and we have a long way until the football season, so hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery and you know, get back with the team and I'm sure he's got plenty of assistance," says Rogers.

"I think he's going to come back really soon,” says Junior George Sasca, “I mean, I don't see something like broken ribs keeping him out of practice for long.”

The next open practice to watch the Razorbacks is scheduled for this Friday. The Hog’s Red-White game is just a few weeks away. It's Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

The accident happened on part of Arkansas 16 with two sharp curves. No other cars were involved.
