BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Former Arkansas offensive coordinator and current University of Alabama-Birmingham head coach Garrick McGee spoke with the media following the Blazers’ practice on Saturday.

McGee said he was surprised about the circumstances surrounding Bobby Petrino’s firing from the University of Arkansas.

“It’s an unfortunate situation for everybody involved,” McGee said. “I feel sorry for everybody involved. It’s really unfortunate.”

McGee’s name has been linked to the Arkansas vacancy, and some agencies have reported that Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has already spoken to McGee about the job. When he was asked if he or his agent had been contacted by Arkansas, here was McGee’s response:

“Well, this is what I want to do,” he said. “When you’re starting your career as a head coach, you start to set policies for the way that you’re going to go about your business, and the policy and the protocol that I’m going to set for myself [is] that I am not interested in speaking about my dealings with any other university. I really enjoy that job that I have.”
