Arkansas basketball star C’iera Ricketts was drafted Monday afternoon in the 2nd round of the WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury. She was taken as the 12th pick of the 2nd round, and number 24 overall.

“This is an exciting opportunity for C’eira to be drafted,” said Razorback head coach Tom Collen.  “I’m excited for her.  She certainly is one of the best guards of the country and worthy of this opportunity.    I think this says a lot about the program we are building here that we can turn out a WNBA player.”

Collen thinks that the Mercury will fit her style too. “Phoenix is a good team for her,” Collen said.  “They might run up and down floor in transition as hard as any team in league and she will do well with that type of system.  C’eira has a chance to be effective on both sides of floor for them.  They are trying to figure out if she is a one or two guard and I think the great thing about C’eira is that she is versatile enough to play either and she’ll be given an opportunity to prove that in their camp. Any time you can play more than one position you have a chance.”
