The search for a murderer of a pregnant woman intensifies in LeFlore County.
LeFlore County Sheriff Bruce Curnutt said Tuesday local authorities began searching a section of the Poteau River in Pocola for clues in the murder 20-year-old Kaloni Flynn.
Sheriff Curnutt says the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation requested they search the area under the bridge between Pocola and Spiro.
He did not go into detail as to what they were looking for or what led them to the Poteau River. The sheriff simply said investigators are “exploring every avenue” and searching for any evidence that could have been thrown out by the murder suspect.
"At this point, there are several aspects that we could be looking for, possibly a gun, possibly a cell phone, any evidence that would help us to apprehend her assailant," says Sheriff Curnutt.
Flynn was found shot to death inside her vehicle on McGinnis Lane just north of Highway 9 in Spiro on April 9. The section of the Poteau River where deputies are searching is just a few miles east of the crime scene.
As detectives look for more clues, family members say they're praying whoever has information will come forward.
"I run it through my head all day, every day, different scenarios, but the truth is we just don't have a clue," says Flynn's Aunt Brighetta Flynn-Jones.
Autopsy results show Flynn was 12 weeks pregnant at the time of her murder, according to Sheriff Curnutt.
"We're considering it a double homicide," says Sheriff Curnutt.
"It's been hard," says Flynn-Jones, "We'd all just like a little closure, you know, we'd love to know what happened."
