Local cities celebrated the First Thursday of the month with shopping, art, and music. Garrison Avenue Antiques held their grand opening in conjunction with the monthly event.

“My forte is furniture. I like big heavy stuff,” said owner Ned Roberts.

The store sells desks, beds, chairs and china. Some of the antiques date back to the 1800’s. “A lot of the stores don’t have the pieces of this caliber,” said Roberts.

Some stores on Garrison Avenue stayed open until 8 p.m. and gave special discounts. “We offer everyone 25-percent off of their purchase on the first Thursday downtown,” said Kasey Valdivia, owner of Pleasures by Kasey.

Valdivia says Thursdays are good because people come downtown. “We had a lot of new customers that had come in just to check everything out,” she said.

Bret Michaels will perform at the Rib Room. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m.

First Thursday festivities in Fayetteville ran from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Guests checked out artists, music, and street performers on the Fayetteville Square.
