A Bentonville school reopened with a new name Wednesday.

In December 2011 the Bentonville School Board decided to change the name of the Early Childhood Center to the Tennie Russell Primary School.

Russell was a former teacher and principal, she has now retired.

Wednesday the school district made the change official. Russell and her family attended the celebration.  She says she never imagined receiving such an honor.

“It`s still a dream, it is unbelievable,” said Russell, “When I graduated from Bentonville High School in 1942, little did I dream there would be another building, much less a building named for me, and here 70 years later have this building.”

Russell’s three children and her three grandchildren are all graduates of Bentonville High School.
