Student Arrested for Breaking into Cars

A Sebastian County high school student has been arrested for a string of vehicle break-ins. Investigators believe there could be more victims.

Ricky Phelps, 18, admitted to stealing from 14 different victims, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Investigators believe Phelps broke into vehicles in the Hackett and Greenwood areas and took personal items like iPods and phone chargers, as well as cash and gift cards.

Most of the thefts were occurred in the overnight hours.  

Philip Pevehouse with the sheriff’s department says Phelps worked part-time after school.

“After he came home from work, he would roam amongst the neighboring homes looking for opportunities,” he stated in the news release.

Investigators believe he looked for vehicles that were unlocked.
