A Pittsburg County, Okla., man suspected of beating a child was arrested in LeFlore County. Authorities say 38-year-old Billy Jack Russell was arrested in the Nubbin Ridge area in the northwestern part of the county.  He’s charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Pittsburg County deputies and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force had been looking for Russell for the past two weeks. The search began after police said Russell beat his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son so severely, the boy almost suffered kidney failure.

Russell’s girlfriend was also arrested.

The boy is recovering well, authorities say.
