When you think of someone celebrating a 100th birthday, you may envision them sitting in a nursing home rocking chair, but one local man decided to spend his at the gym.

Charley Reutzel is a faithful member of Mercy Fitness and celebrated his birthday with a Zumba for seniors class in Fort Smith.

Following the workout, Mercy employees threw a birthday celebration for the centurion. Reutzel says he makes it through the Zumba routine with a little encouragement.

“Well, that pretty little leader there, she'll push you and she will make you move,” he said. “She's great really.”

Reutzel credits his longevity to good genes, his life style and just being lucky. He’s also an active member of the “Silver Sneakers” class at Mercy Fitness.

His grandfather came to the area from German. Reutzel says he's a fourth generation Reutzel in Fort Smith and his son is a fifth generation of the local family.
