One Killed in Motorcycle Accident Near Eureka Springs

One person is dead and another is critically injured after a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 62 Monday afternoon.

One person is dead and another is critically injured after a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 62 Monday afternoon.

Mark D. Stoia, 26, of Eureka Springs was driving a 2010 Yamaha Motorcycle west on Highway 62 near Eureka Springs with 26-year-old Shenelle Maisonneuve riding as a passenger on the bike at approximately 4:29 p.m. Monday, according to Arkansas State Police.

Authorities say Stoia traveled into the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle.  When the motorcyclist attempted to pass the vehicle authorities say he hit a 1999 Chevrolet Truck driven by Christopher Donahue, 25, of Berryville, head-on. 

Arkansas State Police say the motorcycle caught fire upon impact.

Arkansas State Police say Stoia was pronounced dead at the scene.  The motorcycle passenger, Shenelle Maisonneuve was critically injured in the accident and was taken to St. John’s in Springfield.

The truck driver, Christopher Donahue was also injured in the accident.  Arkansas State Police did not say how severe his injuries were.  Donahue was transported to Eureka Springs Hospital.

Authorities say Stoia’s body was sent to Nelson’s Funeral Home in Eureka Springs.

According to investigators, roads were clear and dry at the time of the accident.

Arkansas State Police did not say whether the two motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
