Two homes were damaged by fire early Friday morning in Alma.

Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to 1273 and 1281 Lake View Estates around 3:30 a.m. No one was at either house when officials arrived, according to Alma Police Chief Russell White.

One home appears to be more damaged than the other, according to Chief White. Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire and exactly where it started. Chief White says it may have started in one home and spread to the other.

Officials aren’t calling the fire suspicious yet. But the police department’s arson investigator and an investigator from Arkansas State Police are on the scene to rule out anything suspicious. The ASP investigator was asked to help because one of the department’s investigators is on vacation, according to Chief White.

Chief White says the owners of at least one of the homes are out of town.

It took a couple hours for firefighters to put out of the flames. No one was injured.
