Walmart heirs Tom and Steuart Walton have contributed another $25,000 each to Keep Dollars in Benton County, the group supporting alcohol sales in the county.

The figures are on a June 14 financial report posted Friday on the Arkansas Ethics Commission website. The report covers contributions from May 1 to May 30. Tom and Steuart Walton made their $25,000 contributions on May 14, the report shows. Their contributions are the only ones in May.

In total, Tom and Steuart Walton have contributed $165,000 each to the Benton County wet-up effort. Of the $380,000 that Keep Dollars in Benton County has raised, $330,000 has come from Tom and Steuart Walton.

Keep Dollars in Benton County is attempting to collect enough signatures from registered voters to put the issue on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The group paid $58,921 in May to National Ballot Access, the Lawrenceville, Ga., company collecting petition signatures, according to the June financial report.

Marshall Ney, spokesman for Keep Dollars in Benton County, said the group needs signatures from about 41,000 registered voters. He said Friday the group is not disclosing how many signatures it has collected, but figures from recent weeks indicate Keep Dollars in Benton County has collected at least 35,800 signatures, he said.

The signatures must be submitted the Benton County clerk by the first week of August, he said.
