A 51-year-old Benton County Road Department employee remains in stable condition Tuesday at Washington Regional Hospital after being injured while working with a crew on Coppermine Road in Rogers, said Doug Gay, Benton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The employee, only identified by his last name, Grimes, was working as a flagman directing traffic while co-workers trimmed trees along Coppermine just south of Shaddox Mountain Drive, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

A surplus military forklift the workers were using rolled down a hill, knocking a county vehicle into Grimes before rolling over his lower body, the release states.

Grimes was flown the hospital in Fayetteville with injuries to his right leg and pelvis.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, the release states.
