Gosack’s Job Safe After Review

After a week of speculation the Fort Smith Board of Directors decided to let City Administrator Ray Gosack keep his job.

After a week of speculation the Fort Smith Board of Directors decided to let City Administrator Ray Gosack keep his job.

Two months after a satisfactory review Gosack was back in the hot seat Tuesday night. Directors Steve Tyler and Pam Weber requested the board review his job performance again. “There was a personnel issue that we wanted to review the handling, his handling of it,” said Tyler.

Tuesday night the board found Gosack’s performance satisfactory. “I’m feeling very good that the board has confidence in my ability to lead the city organization,” said Gosack.

Weber refused to comment. Tyler would not elaborate any further on the issue. “I don’t want to talk about it at all,” he said. “It’s a personnel issue. I just don’t want to talk about it,” said Tyler.

Gosack also refused to discuss the personnel issue. “It does involve a city employee, but it’s a confidential matter,” he said. “As long as there’s not a suspension or a termination involved, the matter is to be treated with confidentiality,” said Gosack.

Gosack said there was “some concern” when he found out about the review because initially he was not sure why directors wanted to evaluate his performance again.

City directors plan to reevaluate Gosack’s job performance in July 2013.
