A Siloam Springs toddler who nearly drowned earlier this week remained in serious condition Wednesday, although the boy’s mom says he is getting better.

Collin DeBord, 4, had a feeding tube inserted Wednesday. Doctors at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock turned his ventilation down so Collin would breathe more on his own.

“He had a rough night last night. He had a better day today,” said Tracey DeBord, Collin’s mom.

Collin is heavily sedated, but responds to stimuli. DeBord said the family is optimistic Collin’s condition will continue to improve. Doctors scheduled a magnetic resonance imaging test for later this week to look for potential brain damage.

Steve DeBord, Collin’s dad, said he and his wife were inside the home while his children were playing outside Monday. Collin’s 6-year-old sister pulled the boy from the water after he fell into a nearby pond.

Steve DeBord tried to resuscitate his unresponsive son before an ambulance arrived 20 minutes later.
