Longtime Chick-fil-A public relations head Don Perry has died, according to the Atlanta Business Journal. His death comes just days after Chick-fil-A President Don Cathy weighed in on same sex marriages, saying his company supports the traditional family.
“Go out and support Chick-fil-A. Buy some chicken and eat it,” said Sen. Kim Hendren (R-Gravette).
“Right now I'm protesting with my dollars,” said Tyler Clark, chair of the Washington County Democrats.
Clark will not eat at Chick-fil-A. He said, “The owner of Chick-fil-A has a right to say what he wants to say, but people have a right to go to another restaurant too if they don’t like what he has to say.”
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee stands by the fast food company’s stance on gay marriage. He is asking people to support the chain by eating at Chic-fil-A on Wednesday. “On Wednesday, August 1 we plan to patronize Chick-fil-A,” said Sen. Hendren.
Sen. Hendren supports the traditional view of marriage. His church in Gravette plans to buy Chick-fil-A sandwiches for Wednesday night bible study. “I hope that we can get back to the idea that as Americans we're free to express our views and to practice our religion as we see fit,” said Sen. Hendren.
Liberals want the marriage debate left up to political leaders and the government. “People will remember this though I think as they make decisions where they want to take their families to eat,” said Clark.
The Northwest Arkansas Center for Equality is organizing an online protest against Chick-fil-A. 5NEWS reached out to the center, but no one was available for comment.
