A Pennsylvania man was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly trying to sell magazines and books door-to-door without a permit. Van Buren police say that’s a violation of a city ordinance.

Austin Currier, from Albion, Pa., was arrested near 11th and Lincoln Streets after officers received multiple complaints about the man selling the items in the area that afternoon.

Currier had been stopped earlier in the day and was given a warning about soliciting door-to-door without a permit, said Det. Jonathan Wear.

A city ordinance also prohibits any door-to-door sales on Sunday.

But police say Currier ignored the warning and was later arrested on misdemeanor charges of soliciting without a permit and loitering.

According to the city ordinance soliciting must be done between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday with a permit, Det. Wear said.

Soliciting cannot be done at any time on Sunday.  The penalty for violating the ordinance is a fine of up to $200.
