Police say a body found in a Fort Smith home may be a suspect wanted in an early morning murder.

Officers attempted to serve a warrant for first degree murder for Ibn Kamal Islam, 33, at a residence in the 3200 block of South 60th Street just before 6 p.m. and found a body and a gun, police say.

An officer on the scene says the body could be Islam.

Islam was wanted on a first degree murder warrant for the death of 35-year-old Chad Whitfield.

Police were called to residence in the 2100 block of N. 57th Lane just after midnight Wednesday in reference to a shooting. Officers found Whitfield lying on the kitchen floor with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
