Football season is right around the corner and the Razorbacks hit the field Saturday for their first scrimmage in Razorback Stadium since head coach Bobby Petrino was fired in April.

Despite the recent coaching shake-up, many still think the 10th ranked squad has what it takes to win a national title this year.

Hog fans from all over made their way to Fayetteville for the scrimmage, and even those spectators who do not typically follow Razorback football recognized this year’s talent.

“Our kids are all here and my husband all the way from the Northeast, New Jersey, so it`s exciting to come and just hangout and watch their scrimmage,” said spectator Nell Geiger. “They are quite a talented team.”

Jimmy Townsley said he’s been a Hog fan since he was just 4-years-old.

Saturday he brought his family out to Razorback Stadium from Fort Smith.

“We need next generation Razorback fans,” said Townsley. “I want to do my part to create a nice Razorback family.”

He, too, thinks the team has the talent to win the SEC championship.

“They have the talent on the field, and I believe their assistant coaching staff is probably one of the best in the country, so I think they can do it,” Townsley said.

Hog fan Jaden Kinney plays football at Huntsville High School. He enjoys watching the Razorbacks play because he said it gives him hope for his future as an athlete.

“Yeah, it does. It makes me believe that anything can happen because I’ve heard a lot of stories about people who just walked on and were phenomenal,” Kinney said.

All outdoor Razorback football practices will be open to the public through Saturday, August 18.

The team plays their first game of the season Saturday, Sept. 1 against Jacksonville State  at home.
