Fort Smith Teen Golfer Leads USA to Teen World Championship Victory

Addison Mitchell is 14 years old and has the potential to make golf’s biggest stage.

14-year-old Addison Mitchell of Fort Smith just got back from Pinehurst, North Carolina representing Team USA at the Teen World Championships. Mitchell was not only the best American finisher, but she helped the United State come away as team champions.

Playing Pinehurts No. 2, one of the best golf courses ever made, and carrying a bag that represents her country, Mitchell never thought she'd be in this position.

“I've always dreamed of going somewhere with golf, but I didn't,” said Mitchell on the surreal experience.

Mitchell is only 14 years old, but already shows so much promise and potential.

“I realize that I have to stay very focused on golf and practice, practice, practice. I know if I want to go somewhere then that's what I have to do and just stay focused.”

She’s traveling all around the country playing in tournaments. She's even played a round with Arkansas's Stacy Lewis at the LPGA Northwest Arkansas Championship. Seeing those players in action, she knows the dedication.

“There's a lot of work you have to put in to do that. I understand that, but it's something that I'd like to do.”

At 14 years old it's easy to get burnt out. So Mitchell makes sure she finds time to be a kid.

“I find time, obviously not as much as my friends because I'm traveling and playing in golf tournaments, but I still do. I live the life of a teenager girl I guess.”

With such high goals, that can lead to some overwhelming pressure. In this game pressure will make or break a player.

“I know I am responsible for doing my best and playing just as well as I can. So there's some pressure there but I just go out and have fun.”
