While many have been suffering from the drought, it’s actually helping others. The wine industry is seeing some benefits from the hot and dry weather.

While California grows most of the grapes for wine in the United States, there are grape vineyards in all 50 states. Those vineyards say the drought means better-quality grapes this year.

They say the berries are smaller, and the sugar more concentrated. Too much rain during the season can result in grapes carrying too much water, which dilutes the taste.

Vineyards say too much rain can also lead to problems with mildew and disease.
