A Fayetteville man was busted with nearly 35 pounds of marijuana Wednesday, according to police.

Joshua Malcolm, 33, was arrested at at 957 W. Hughes on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after detectives with the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force executed a search warrant.

"You had a mixture of types of marijuana but you are looking at about $36,000 in street value," said Sgt. Craig Stout with the Fayetteville Police Department.

Officers seized 34.5 pounds of marijuana and $9,102. They also found a money counter and scales.

"You could tell that this was set up to be a fairly good-sized operation," Stout said.

Malcolm lives near the University of Arkansas and neighbors said they're surprised by the amount of marijuana seized in the bust.

"I wasn't expecting it. I mean I'm not surprised but I didn't know," Katie Harris said.

"That is a lot to confiscate," she added.

Investigators said seizing this amount helps prevent violence in the area.

"It's a very good size score and especially having several pound of high-graded marijuana mixed in," Stout said.

"A lot of our shootings and home invasion robberies have been over high-graded marijuana. So it's good that we got it off the street," Stout said.
