A teenager died after a crash Monday afternoon in Springdale that left him pinned under a vehicle.

Springdale police said Skyler Shawn, 16, died Monday night at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

"I went into shock. I couldn't believe it. I told my mom, and my mom and me started praying," said Rachel Allen, who met Skyler through his older brother Logan.

Emergency crews freed the teenager from under a white Ford Explorer around 4:30 p.m. Monday on South Thompson Street. Shawn was transported to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale before being transferred to Mercy Hospital.

Skyler's brother Logan was driving the Ford Explorer involved in the wreck. Logan was taken to Northwest Medical Center in stable condition. He was released Monday night.

The two-vehicle crash at 2308 S. Thompson St. flipped the Explorer onto the teenager after he was ejected from the vehicle, authorities said.

Andrea Wood, 29, was driving a blue Dodge Neon, the only other car involved in the head-on collision. Wood was transported to the hospital in stable condition. She was released Tuesday.

"Just really really rough to hear, definitely. I know I went to school today late and it was kind of quiet in the hallways," Allen said.

Wood, of Lincoln, was driving south on Thompson Street when the Explorer crossed into her lane and struck Wood’s vehicle head-on, according to police.

The Explorer flipped several times before coming to rest on top of the 16-year-old. Emergency crews lifted the car and extracted the teenager.

A Facebook Group "Remembering Skyler Dauhne Shawn" was created in his honor.
His friends said he was a sweet young man with a passion for music.

"I'm just going to remember that about him and I know he impacted us a lot," Allen said.

Alan Wilbourn, spokesperson for the Fayetteville School District, said the school brought in extra counselors to help with the grieving process.

"So far, about 40 of our students have gone by to see the counselors because he was a popular young man, had a lot of friends, so obviously they are affected by his loss," Wilbourn said.

Wilbourn said the halls at Fayetteville High School were also somber.

"We know statistically---over 9,000 students and 1400 staff members---these things happen, and it doesn`t make it any easier," Wilbourn said.

Rachel Allen said Skyler's brother is recuperating at home and Skyler will be dearly missed.

"We are definitely going to be praying for his family and keep them in our thoughts and our prayers," Allen said.
