Federal marshals are following up on leads Saturday in the case of a violent, convicted rapist who has failed to register as a sex offender.
Timothy Curtis Peterson was last seen in Longtown, Okla., just north of McAlester, the U.S. Marshals Service said Friday.
“We’re following up on leads in the Van Buren area and in eastern Oklahoma,” a spokesman said Saturday.
Peterson’s crimes started in September 2009 when he beat his 70-year-old grandgather in Muskogee County, according to marshals. He stole $2,000 from the elderly man’s pocket, as well as his truck and left him for dead.
The grandfather spent weeks in the hospital recovering from a concussion, broken nose, broken leg and arm, plus numerous stitches and staples to his head, face, and body, according to authorities.
Peterson was then convicted of brutally raping and sodomized a 7-year-old girl back in 2000, according to the marshals service. He has failed to register as a sex offender since and disappeared.
There is a $2,500 reward offered for information leading to his arrest. Peterson is considered extremely dangerous.
