The mood in the locker room after the Razorbacks’ crushing loss to ULM Saturday night was one of complete and utter shock.
It was a somber atmosphere as the players and coaches tried to answer how a loss like that could have happened.
The Warhawks defeated the Razorbacks 34-31 in overtime at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
5NEWS Reporter Nicole Muracco spoke to the players and coaches after the game.
“I just have to give ULM a lot of credit,” Head Coach John L. Smith said after the game. “They did a great job. Their kids played hard. They outplayed us, they outcoached us, and they won the game.”
“It was a crusher,” Hogs linebacker Tenarius Wright said. “We have to get level-headed and realize what’s ahead of us. We have to take one game at a time and not look down the road. We have to take one game at a time, one play at a time, and one practice at a time.”
“I can’t believe it,” said Arkansas Offensive Coordinator Paul Petrino. “We came out and did some nice things in the first half and then came out and did good the first drive of the second half. And then we didn’t do anything worth a darn after that, and that starts with me. We have to find out what we are made of, come out next week and work out butt off and improve and get better. But the offense wasn’t good enough, and that was my fault.”
Arkansas plays first ranked Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Fayetteville.
While the offense struggled, they were not the sole reason for the loss. It was a total team breakdown.
“We all contributed to the loss, and I don’t want to see any finger pointing,” Coach Smith said. “Which is naturally what you get. Because that is the easy thing to do and that’s what losers do, is they point fingers, so hopefully we have no losers. Hopefully, they will all wrap their arms around each other and come to work and get better and get ready for Alabama.”
“It’s football, you have to roll with the punches,” said running back Knile Davis. “Everything doesn’t happen the way you want all the time. You have to adjust. This is just a bump in the road. How are we going to react. Just like they came in here and beat us, we can go and beat Alabama the same.”
