Fayetteville and its Farmer's Market are in the national spotlight.

The reality television show "Great Food Truck Race" aired an episode Sunday that was filmed in Fayetteville back in May.

"It was just a great opportunity for the city to showcase what a great city we have and what a great Farmer's Market we have," Mayor Lioneld Jordan said.

The show's contestants buy local products, then cook what they've bought and sell it from their trucks.

The show hosted by Tyler Florence follows five food trucks on Dickson Street and around the square during the Fayetteville Farmer's Market, which was named America's Favorite Farmer's Market by the American Farmland Trust.

"We're really proud of what we do and why we do it to support our local community and small scale agriculture," said Lori Boatright, public coordinator for the Fayetteville Farmer's Market.

"We are really proud to be number one and hope that more markets take notice of what we are doing and try to support it in their communities as well," Boatright said.

One of the trucks hit a light post near the Fayetteville Square and Mayor Jordan as well as local police responded.

"I said 'You don't have to worry about the light pole. When I first came into office we handled a $6 million ice storm, we can handle a light pole, not to worry,'" Jordan said.

Boatright said that attracting national television contributed to the local economy.

"They shopped locally, prepared local food and served it to the public. It came full circle and we are really happy about that," Boatright said.

Some locals appear on the episode. The winner gets $50,000 and the keys to a brand new food truck.

The Food Network will re-air the episode at 6 p.m. Sunday.
