Family and friends gathered to say goodbye to a very special little boy Sunday.

Liam Lyon was born in Leflore County in February 2011 with a serious congenital heart defect.

He underwent several surgeries to keep his heart beating as long as possible, but  his heart gave out last Monday night.

Liam died in his parents arms at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital after his family says an infection spread through his bloodstream.

Now Liam’s family says there's a new angel in heaven.

“He was just a strong hearted. He had a great soul. He was put here so people would realize they need to appreciate people more.”

Hundreds attended his "celebration of life" Sunday afternoon, wearing their red "Team Liam" shirts they took a look back at the life Liam lived.

Later that night , some who knew Liam held a candle light vigil for him as they released dozens of red heart balloons in his honor.

Although Liam’s life was short-lived - those who knew him say he touched thousands of lives.

Liam was laid to rest next to his great grandfather at a cemetery in Cameron Sunday night.
