A man is in jail after police say he stole money from a Springdale pawn shop, then assaulted an employee with a stick.
Jason Duane Emery, 34, was arrested Monday in connection with felony robbery, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Wednesday awaiting a bond hearing.
Employees told police Emery stole $64 from the K&M Pawn Shop in Springdale while the clerk was in the restroom. Two other employees took chase as Emery fled, according to a preliminary arrest report.
When the employees confronted Emery, the suspect struck one of them in the chest with a stick, the report states.
The employees then engaged in an altercation with the suspect until the police arrived.
Officers said they found a Crown Royal bag with methamphetamine and needles inside on Emery’s person. They also found automobile gear shift handles and several pieces of jewelry. Employees said Emery was already carrying the items when he entered the pawn shop.
Police arrested Emery at the scene, but could not locate the missing cash.
