An elderly man is in serious condition after police say he was beaten and robbed at a Fort Smith car wash Friday morning.

Fort Smith police are looking for a suspect they say entered a room where C.E. Smith, 83, was working in a car wash at North 46th Street and Grand Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. The suspect closed the door and severely beat and robbed Smith, causing extensive injuries to Smith’s face, said Sgt. Daniel Grubbs with the Fort Smith Police Department.

Smith was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The suspect fled with Smith’s pickup truck and an undetermined amount of cash and quarters from a money changer. Officers later found Smith’s truck abandoned a few blocks away in an alley.

The Fort Smith police are asking that anyone with information about the suspect call 78-CRIME.
