Gravette police arrested an Oklahoma man this week accused of raping and engaging in several sex acts with a 9-year-old girl.

Ray Aaron Romo, 63, was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony rape. He remains in the Benton County Jail on $75,000 bond.

A Benton County woman told police she walked in on Romo having sex with a 9-year-old girl earlier in September. When detectives sat down with the girl, she told police she and Romo had engaged in various sex acts over the last several weeks, according to a preliminary arrest report from the Benton County Circuit Court.

When interviewed by police, Romo accused the woman of being a prostitute and falsely accusing him. He told investigators he was trying to save the girl from the woman’s lifestyle of prostitution, the report states.

Romo was arrested following the interview after detectives conferred with prosecutors.
