A man was rescued from the Illinois River on Tuesday in Sequoyah County, Okla., near Lake Tenkiller after being swept up in the water.
Authorities said the man was caught off-guard when water was released from a nearby dam. Members of Sequoyah County Swift Water Rescue made their way to the man, who had been hanging on to a log for more than 30 mintues, said Sheriff Ron Lockhardt with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office.
Some nearby campers called 911 after hearing the man call for help.
