A woman attacked officers at a Fayetteville Walmart as they tried to arrest her for shoplifting baby clothing, police say.

LeCarol R. Williams, 20, of Fayetteville was arrested Sunday on suspicion of second degree battery on an officer, third degree battery on an officer, resisting arrest, shoplifting and endangering the welfare of a minor. She remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Monday on $5,000 bond.

Police were called to the Walmart on Martin Luther King Boulevard in reference to a possible shoplifting. A loss prevention officer at the store had Williams in custody and showed police video of the woman hiding baby clothes under her clothes, then leaving the store, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Williams’ four-year-old daughter was present during the incident, the report states.

Police said Williams admitted to stealing the items, and she began struggling and threatening officers when they tried to handcuff her. Williams dug her fingernails into an officer’s skin, but police were eventually able to restrain her with handcuffs, a belly chain and leg restraints, the report states.

Williams continued to struggle with officers at a squad car and at the jail, attempting to kick one of the officers in the knees at one point, police said.

Police and deputies were eventually able to secure Williams at the county detention center.
