A 13-year-old dog named Peppi woke its owner in a burning house in Lincoln early Tuesday, allowing the woman inside to escape, officials said.

Lincoln Fire Department dispatchers received a call about the fire on Brenda Avenue at approximately 3:45 a.m., officials said.

A fire marshal at the scene said a woman was inside the home at the time the fire sparked. A dog began whimpering and woke the woman, said Jay Norton of the Lincoln Fire Department.

Norton said the woman and Peppi escaped without injuries.

The house was 75 percent destroyed in the fire, Norton said.

The Washington County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.
