Southside at Greenwood in week eight is a game that was circled when the 7A/6A-Central conference schedule was released. Now it will likely determine the league title.
Greenwood (7-0, 4-0) has rolled through its schedule, winning all seven games by two touchdowns and an average of 30 points. Southside (5-2, 4-0) has reeled off four straight wins, including last week's 35-21 come from behind win against Conway.
The Rebels have made a habit of starting slow and peaking at the right time. It did so in it's title run in 2006 and each of the last three years as a member of the 7A-West.
"It`s important for bragging rights obviously in this county and for this area," Greenwood coach Rick Jones. "Southside has a great tradition of winning championships. It`s a big game. I`m not sure in the grand scope of playoffs and things like that, I`m not sure exactly where it falls but it`s a big game and on Friday night at 7 o`clock it will be a huge game."
Greenwood will face Conway and Russellville in the final two weeks of the season. The Wampus Cats and Cyclones are tied for third place in the conference with a 3-1 league mark.
