Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in Hartford over the weekend.

The child told police a man was hiding in the bushes and chased her as she was walking home from the town’s fall festival Saturday evening.

The girl took off running and he followed her in a white pickup truck for about a mile, according to police. The child ran to a nearby house on Highway 96 where the homeowners called 911. Investigators say the little girl did all the right things and got away.

"We've been concerned for some time because we recognize that predators are everywhere," said Bonnie Johns, a Hartford resident. "They do not discriminate."

The suspect is believed to be driving a full size white pickup with a black stripe down the side, a deer decal on the back window and Texas tags, according to police.

"Don't become too comfortable and think this cannot happen in our town because it can happen," said Johns.

If you have any information about who this man might be, you're asked to call River Valley Crime Stoppers at (479) 78-CRIME.
