A suspect is on the loose after a Sheriff’s Office lieutenant interrupted a burglary in Johnson County.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Cory Daniel Rusher, 25, of Ozark. Lt. Eddie Richards tackled Rusher as he started driving away from a residential burglary with his motorcycle and several stolen items, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

A local resident approached Richards while he was working radar traffic duty and reported a dark motorcycle kept traveling up and down the Stillwell Road. Richards located the motorcycle in front of a home on the road and saw a man step out of the house with a backpack, according to the statement.

When Richards approached the motorcycle, Rusher said he was not going back to jail and tried to pull away. Richards then tackled Rusher to the ground, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

After a scuffle and pursuit, Rusher successfully fled the area on foot. Richards was able to recover Rusher’s backpack, which was full of DVDs and Wii video games.

Rusher is a six-foot-one white male. He weighs 160 pounds, with short brown hair and short, scraggly whiskers. He is on parole. Anyone with information on the location of Rusher is asked to call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 479-754-2200.
