Law enforcement caught up Tuesday with a Keota, Okla, woman accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend several times earlier this month.

Brandy Kay Hoover, 30, was arrested by a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office investigator on suspicion of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and maiming. She was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on $350,000 bond.

Hoover is accused of stabbing Tara Parks, 32, of Spiro, several times at a home on Broadway in Keota on Oct. 4. The incident happened around 4 a.m., according to Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the OSBI.

Hoover had been missing since the stabbing.

Parks suffered a punctured lung and lacerations to her head, back and side, according to court documents. She spent several days in a Tulsa hospital but has since been released, Brown said.

The fight ensued after Parks and her boyfriend, Kendall McCormick, 36, went to the home to retrieve some of his clothing from Hoover, the OSBI reports. Hoover came out of the residence, threatening to “whip” Parks, according to court documents.

McCormick, with the help of a woman who lived at the residence, Joyce Nunn, separated the women and got the knife.

McCormick attempted to take Parks to a hospital in LeFlore County after she was stabbed but stopped in Panama for help, Brown said.

A call was made to the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office and a medical helicopter was sent to pick up Parks and take her to a Tulsa hospital for treatment, Brown said. Parks is in stable condition, according to Brown.

McCormick was taken into custody on unrelated charges and booked into the LeFlore County jail.

A Keota woman who says she’s the mother of the suspect claims her daughter acted in self-defense.

Andrea Hoover said she took a tearful call from her daughter Brandy early Thursday. Brandy told her mother that Parks and McCormick attacked her and threatened her with a gun at her friend’s home on Broadway, Hoover said.

Brandy claimed McCormick choked her and Parks attacked her, before she pulled a knife and stabbed Parks, Hoover said. Brandy took off running because she had outstanding warrants for her arrest and was scared, according to her mother.

Earlier that day, police confirmed there was an active crime scene in Panama. LeFlore County Sheriff Bruce Curnutt believes officers may have been searching for a weapon possibly used in the incident.

Hoover said Brandy has a history with drugs.

Court records show McCormick and Parks also have had several drug charges against them.
