Arkansas Crowns Homecoming Queen at Game

Katie Waldrip was crowned as the University of Arkansas' Homecoming queen at halftime of the Razorbacks' victory against Tulsa on Saturday.

It was a family affair for Waldrip, who received the crown from her father, Mark, a member of the school's board of trustees. Katie's twin sister, Lauren, was a member of the Homecoming court in 2011, and their sister, Allison, was on the 2006 court.

"I am just really excited to share this moment with my friends and family just because the University of Arkansas means so much to me personally and to my family," Katie Waldrip said. "It's just so, so special."

Waldrip is a senior in the Bumpers College majoring in dietetics. She is a member of the Diamond Dolls and College Republicans and is the third consecutive member of of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority to be named Homecoming queen.

"On campus I am kind of involved across the board," Waldrip said. "I feel like everything from athletics to academics to greek life.

"It's a very proud moment. The last two Homecoming queens have been Kappa, so it's kind of neat to carry on that tradition."

Waldrip said she hopes to serve as a role model for young women.

"There are little eyes upon you and that's so true, and you wouldn't want to do anything that would jeapordize the way that they view you and women," Waldrip said.
