Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan and former Mayor Dan Coody last-minute campaign in the midst of high voter turnout in Washington County.

"I learn a lot as well as I'm able to converse with folks and most of the time it helps people get a direct contact with the candidate," Coody said. "It helps them feel more comfortable with their vote."

Jordan also spent Sunday talking to voters in the south side of town.

"I really enjoy meeting people," Jordan said. "The door knocking is probably one of my most favorite things I get to do during the campaign."

Both have newspapers ads and have placed hundreds of signs throughout the city.

As of Friday, 20,249 Washington County voters had cast their ballots early. In 2008, the total number of early voters was 22,679.

"That still doesn't mean there aren't people out there that are going to wait until Tuesday to vote," Jordan said.

Coody said, "The voter turnout has been huge. I think it's going to break all records so that's good that people are getting out to vote early."

Coody and Jordan are making the most of what time is left during the last push for votes. They said the face-to-face contact is what makes the difference.

"That's my favorite thing about politics is actually interacting with people, learning something, promoting ideas and getting input," Coody said.

Jordan said, "I really get charge up when I get out and be amongst the people and just be with them cause I really love people and I love serving people."

Coody and Jordan said they plan to be at the Washington County Courthouse campaigning during the last day of early voting.
