After months of campaigning, it appears current Senator Bruce Holland will get to keep his  District 9 seat.

With 3 of 4 counties reporting, Holland is ahead of democratic opponent Tracy Pennartz, currently taking in 54% of the vote.

Holland gained, according to preliminary totals, 7,806 of the votes and Pennartz gained around 6,524 of the votes.

Holland said he felt confident he would be re-elected.

“We’re going to get through this,” Holland said. “We’ve got enough friendships and we’ve built enough relationships with people in different parts of the district that we’ll get through this.”

Holland was elected to serve over Senate District 6 in 2010. Since then, the Arkansas General Assembly has reconfigured the districts. That pulled Holland from District 6 over to District 9.

“There’s been no greater pleasure for me than to serve the people of this district,” Holland said.

He continued on to say that he’s had the opportunity to get out and talk with people throughout the new district and hear what issues they would like to see advance at the state level.

The race between Holland and his opponent Tracy Pennartz was a heavily watched race in the River Valley.

Every senate position across the state was on the ballot. That’s because all of the districts were redrawn to ensure that each district has roughly the same number of constituents. Since every position was up for grabs, the newly elected state senators will have to divide themselves into two classes. All state senators will take part in a draw after the election to figure out who will serve a four year term and who will be up for re-election in two years. That’s in an effort to make the senate elections staggered again.
