A Springdale man pleaded not guilty in Washington County Circuit Court to shooting a motorist following a high-speed road rage incident from March.

Daniel Martinez, 23, faces charges of felony aggravated assault and committing a terrorist act. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center on $500,000 bond. Martinez’s next court date is set for Jan. 10 in Washington County Circuit Court.

Police said the alleged victim was driving from Fayetteville to Springdale along College Avenue when he accidentally cut off a white sports car. The car sped up and sideswiped the victim’s car twice before the alleged victim pulled off to the side of the road, according to an arrest warrant affidavit from the Washington County Circuit Court.

The white sports car then t-boned the man’s car. Martinez stepped out of the sports car and shot at the man’s car several times, hitting him once in the hip, according to the affidavit.

Martinez then drove off. The man wrote down Martinez’s license plate number before calling 911 and being transported to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, police said.

Fort Smith police later arrested Martinez after engaging in a high-speed pursuit. Police found a semi-automatic pistol and shell casings in Martinez’s car, the affidavit states.
