In the spirit of Christmas, a group of children got an all-expense paid shopping trip to the Fayetteville Wal-Mart on Martin Luther King Boulevard on Saturday.
The 9th annual Washington County Sheriff's Office "Shop with a Cop" event took place Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"It means a lot,” Deputy Andrew Hudgens said. “I'm glad, very happy and proud that we can be part of this with the Washington County FOP to help these children out. It just means a lot. It's very rewarding to help these children out and make them have a better day and get them things they need."
The 120 children from were chosen through school counselor recommendations and with the help of the Washington County Sheriff's Office each kid got $100 worth of clothes and toys from Wal-Mart.
Pearl Snyder, 10, and her 12-year-old brother Jesse picked out jeans, shirts, socks, underwear, toys and some new, sensible shoes.
"Some of my shoes have really huge high heels and they make me fall and have blisters," Pearl said.
Jesse said his family does not own a computer so he spends a lot of his time playing outdoors. With Hudgen’s help, Jesse picked out a toy that he and his friends can play with outside.
"It was just a really, really fun time and just having a cop with me it was just like I was a cop," Pearl said.
The kids were selected from the West Fork, Greenland, Lincoln, Prairie Grove and Elkins school districts.
All of the money was raised through fundraisers put on by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Saturday's shopping trip cost approximately $12,000.
