Report: Arkansas OC Paul Petrino Accepts Head Coaching Job at Idaho

Petrino was not expected to be retained when a new head coach takes over.

One week after John L. Smith was officially let go as the Arkansas head coach, his offensive coordinator has landed his own head coaching gig.

According to multiple reports, Paul Petrino has accepted the head coaching job at the University of Idaho.

It has been widely speculated that Petrino is one of many coaches on Smith’s staff who would not be retained when a new hire is made.

Petrino rejoined the Arkansas staff last December for a second stint as offensive coordinator after spending two years as the offensive coordinator at Illinois.

He has been seen as an appealing choice for many small programs given the success he had with both Tyler Wilson and Cobi Hamilton setting school records this season.

Petrino takes over for Robb Akey, who was fired during his sixth season with the Vandals.
