Eight months after being fired from the University of Arkansas, Bobby Petrino is back coaching college football. On Monday, Petrino accepted the head coaching position at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
Petrino was rumored to be a candidate to replace Gus Malzahn at Arkansas State, but the school quickly said he was not on its list.
Petrino interviewed at Western Kentucky Monday and accepted the job shortly after.
His contract is a four-year deal, $850,000 per year. His buyout, if he decides to leave early, is $1.2 million. WKU paid it’s last coach, WIllie Taggart, $500,000. Petrino averaged $3.53 million a year at Arkansas.
Taggart took the head coaching job at South Florida last week.
Petrino will be formally announced at 4pm Monday afternoon.
