Arkansas baseball has announced its captains for 2013 and one of them is a River Valley native. Matt Vinson from Alma High School will wear the big ‘C’ on his jersey this season.

Vinson will be the leader this fan base looks to when the Hogs go for a second straight trip to the College World Series. Vinson plays centerfield and was a huge asset in last year’s College World Series. He played and started in all four games in Omaha and had a hit in each of those games, along with 3 RBIs.

Vinson played in 49 games, including 36 starts, and hit .217 with 13 RBI last season. The senior outfielder finished third on the team with 24 walks.

The other three captains are junior pitchers Barrett Astin and Colby Suggs and junior catcher Jake Wise.

Vinson and the rest of the team start the season on Friday, Feb. 15, facing Western Illinois at Baum Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
