The Fayetteville Bulldogs celebrated their second state championship title two years in a row with an emotional event at the Town Center.

Fayetteville High School beat the Bentonville Tigers 30-21 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock December 1.

Booster club parents, who supported their boys throughout the season, organized the celebration that’s very dear to their hearts.

"It was perfect that this great group of seniors got to go out with the state championship win again this year,” said Jill McCracken, booster club co-vice president. “It was an incredible feeling, very proud.”

It's a historic championship win since it's the first time a 7-A team claims victory two consecutive years.

Madison Watkins, who’s a senior cheerleader, remembers the intense game in Little Rock.

"Just being on the sidelines, the crowd’s energy and everything was so exciting,” Watkins said. “It was so great, especially since I'm a senior."

Football players signed autographs including the T-shirt 9-year old Vandergriff Elementary student Zach Freeman.

"I'm from Vandergriff and I want them to sign my shirt if they are from Vandergriff," Freeman said.

Steve Clark, president of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, sported his purple blazer to show his bulldog spirit.

"We have ribbon cuttings, ground breakings and we all wear these purple jackets. You put 30 of us on a street corner, you get a lot of attention," Clark said.

Clark said this championship means a lot to the city.

"They did not quit and because they didn't quit, they did more than people could expect of them,” Clark said. “They became champions and always will be champions. That's the kind of reputation that a city wants to have.”

They shared game highlights and auctioned off autographed helmets and jerseys. Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan also congratulated the team.

For seniors and their families this event was bitter-sweet.

"We are certainly going to miss all of this experience and excitement and just the fun of the Friday Night Football Games," McCracken said.

The players will be receiving championship rings and championship t-shirts.
