A ‘doomsday survivalist’ based in Asheville, North Carolina, is working on a weapon called the Joshua MK5 rifle, a mix between the AR15 and AK47.
Ryan Croft, a Gulf War veteran, says he wants to be prepared for whatever happens. He has the tools to survive including, how to eat alternative food sources.
Croft even taught his five sons to roast mice over a fire and collect protein-packed algae and earthworms for food.
"Did you know they have 6 grams of protein a piece and they're safe to eat?" Croft said.
He doesn't believe the world will end completely - but likens a potential doomsday to a great event, like the start of the war in Iraq that could turn parts of the world, up-side down.
“I'm not planning on the world going away,” he said. “That sucks! However, I’m a realist. I’m not going to put my head in the sand and the world is in a dark place right now. The world is unsure of itself.”
“Doomsday Preppers” a show on the National Geographic Channel featured Croft.
The Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21, leading many to believe the world will come to an end.
But NASA scientists are trying to debunk the rumor. Had the Mayan civilization survived, they would have simply created another calendar, scientists say.
