A fire late Tuesday caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage to a home on Pinnacle Drive in Rogers, according to the fire chief.
The fire started in the chimney and attic of the 5,600 square-foot home and within hours flames were coming through the roof.
The Rogers Fire Department responded to a call of a residential structure fire at about 9 p.m. The department later requested the help of other nearby fire departments.
A fire like this is considered a third alarm fire, something that doesn't happen often here.
“A third alarm fire just to put it into perspective, we've had one in 2012, so this is the first one in 2013, so you`re talking one or two fires a year of that magnitude,” said Rogers Fire Chief Tom Jenkins.
Two adults and two children, ages 3 and 5, made it out of the home without injuries, according to Jenkins.
“Woke up to a smoke detector going off inside the house which is great, obviously performed like we expect them too, she was able to look out her bedroom, the way the house was configure to see the roof with fire coming out of it,” he said.
Jenkins says the preliminary investigation states the fire started in the chimney and spread into the attic.
“They smelled smoke and had some oddities with how their electricity was behaving in that room, which in hindsight, signals that they`re likely was a problem manifesting itself in the attic long before we got the call, hours before we got the call,” he said.
Authorities blocked off the area near the Pinnacle Country Club golf course. The fire was on the country club grounds. At least 13 emergency vehicles responded to the call.
Two fire department vehicles' ladders stationed near the house stood overlooking the flames and held firefighters shooting water onto the fire.
