A Conway mother was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Dec. 20 incident that left her 4-year-old son with second degree burns on his body.
Marsha Nacole Oliver, 23, is charged with first degree battery.
According to a report from KTHV, Oliver told police she put the boy and his younger sibling in a bath tub of running water when she realized she needed to get clothes for the kids.
She claimed she took the children out of the water and went to get the clothes, then heard her child scream. When she returned the child was in the tub of hot water.
She said she got the boy out of the water and started applying Gold Bond powder to his peeling skin, the report states.
Police say Oliver’s story about how her son got the burns changed several times. Doctors at Arkansas Children’s Hospital reported that along with the burns, the boy also had a black eye, bite marks, and scars from older burns.
Oliver is currently in the Faulkner County jail and her four children remain in DHS custody.
