FORT SMITH – Your New Year’s weight loss resolution is about to face its biggest challenge yet.  Girl Scouts in the area plan to start selling their famous cookies starting January 12.

This year’s cookie sales come with a new twist.

For the first time since 1999, all boxes of Girl Scout Cookies will have a new look.  The decision to update the package came about in 2010 as part of an overall brand refresh in advance of the organization’s 100th anniversary on March 12, 2012.  According a news release from Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, “The package needed to be more contemporary to reflect the new brand identity and to embody the spirit of Girl Scouting, while showing customers how they can reconnect with the organization.”

The new package design shows girls working together as they engage in activities like cleaning a park, volunteering at a soup kitchen, and traveling to Paris.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program will run throughout the Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas Council from January 12 – March 14.  Anyone interested in ordering but not sure of a Girl Scout Troop nearby can contact the council at 800-632-6894.

All Girl Scout Cookies are $3.50 per box.

Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas serves close to 18,000 members and encompasses all counties in Arkansas except Crittenden, including Adair, LeFlore and Sequoyah counties in Oklahoma as well as Bowie and Cass counties in Texas.
